Dear Colleague,

It is with great pride, and great excitement, that I am writing to tell you that the Aetna Foundation's call for proposals opens today at www.aetnafoundation.org.

As I noted in my December message to you, we are bringing a new focus to our giving for 2010 and beyond. As a national health foundation we want to drive positive change in the three areas we have chosen for our programs: the fight against obesity; efforts to improve racial and ethnic equity in health care; and the development and adoption of new, integrated health care delivery models.

In these three program areas, we will award the following types of grants:

• Research grants, in support of work that will generate new knowledge, making use of both quantitative and qualitative techniques;
• Project grants, in support of work that will test, apply or disseminate new practices designed to improve health and health care;
• Policy grants, in support of work that will analyze and promote public policies to ensure that programs and practices to improve health and health care can be replicated and disseminated broadly.

It is clear to us that the health care system must work to repair itself, to improve the quality and delivery of health services to all people, and to drive toward a higher plateau for health in the American public.

The Aetna Foundation seeks national and regional partners with the vision to make these goals a reality. We are eager to review grant applications aligned with our goals from applicants we know, as well as from those we've yet to meet.
