$22 Million to Nonprofits in 2010
Aetna, the Aetna Foundation, and employees gave more than $22 million in 2010 to nonprofit organizations across the nation addressing a variety of health issues, including obesity among adults and children, racial and ethnic equity in health care and needed improvements in the integration and coordination of health care services.
Nearly $2.35 million in Aetna and Aetna Foundation funding was directed to the fight against obesity, $1.24 million to improve racial and ethnic equity in health and health care, and more than $1 million to support better integrated health care in America.
In addition, grants were made to arts and cultural programs, human services organizations, academic opportunities, and faith-based initiatives, among others.

Healthier Babies and Healthier Mothers
Aetna and the Aetna Foundation are directing $730,000 to research projects designed to improve infant and maternal health, particularly in the African-American population, which faces a much higher risk of infant mortality and preterm births than other groups. Grant recipients are the March of Dimes, the University of California, San Francisco and the Center for Health Care Strategies. More information can be found in our news release.
Fighting Obesity in Atlanta
As part of its support for the Center for Helping Obesity in Children End Successfully (CHOICES) in Atlanta, the Aetna Foundation sponsored the organization’s annual Children’s Nutrition and Physical Activity Expo on March 26. More than 2,000 parents and children attended and participated in free health screenings, fun physical activities, nutrition exhibitions and additional programs.
Fighting Obesity in Massachusetts
The Foxboro Sun Chronicle highlights a recent Aetna Foundation grant to the Foxboro public school system to evaluate its program for children that teaches good nutrition and health eating.
