March Health Affairs Explores Innovations in
Health Care Delivery

What will health care delivery look like in the coming years? The answer may lie in the new issue of Health Affairs. Made possible in part through support from the Aetna Foundation, the March issue showcases 15 health care systems that have instituted significant innovations in the delivery of care, endeavoring to achieve the Triple Aim:

  • improving the health of populations
  • improving individuals' experience
  • and lowering health care costs

Profiles of the 15 innovations, which were discussed at a conference in Washington, D.C. on December 16, 2010, demonstrate that real improvements can be made, despite the many challenges that exist in our current system.

Hartford Courant Profiles Dancing for Health Initiative

"Stretching for Life," a dancing for health program funded by the Aetna Foundation at the Charter Oak Cultural Center in Hartford is featured on the front page of the March 14 edition of The Hartford Courant. The program is one of four recently announced dance-centered programs around the country that are being funded by the Foundation and Aetna in their efforts to reverse the obesity epidemic.

Aetna Foundation Chairman Ron Williams' Talk
at AcademyHealth Available Online

Now available online is a presentation by Ron Williams, chairman of Aetna Inc. and The Aetna Foundation, Inc., at AcademyHealth’s National Policy Conference, held February 7-8, 2011 in Washington, D.C. Williams speaks about innovations and strategies being pursued by leading health plans in response to the Affordable Care Act.

Aetna Employees Volunteer to Fight Obesity

Aetna KidsPlay is an employee volunteer program aimed at helping kids both develop healthy habits of physical activity and ward off the threat of obesity. The program provides a $400 sponsorship to kids sports teams where a company employee volunteers as a coach or in some other formal capacity. In 2011, Aetna expects to support about 50 sports teams of children 3 to 12 years old in communities around the country.
